Katherine C. Gilyard is an award-winning investigative and health reporter, science writer, and narrative strategist whose work lives at the intersection of race, disability, health, and systemic failure. An AuDHD Black woman, she brings rigor, curiosity, and cultural clarity to every story she tells—whether she’s digging into the roots of a public health crisis or uplifting the truths long overlooked by institutions and power brokers.

Her reporting has appeared in The 19th, STAT News, Kaiser Health News, GoodRx, and other national outlets, and has been honored with multiple National Association of Black Journalists Salute to Excellence Awards as well as the Harriet McBryde Johnson Award for Nonfiction from the Autism Self Advocacy Network.

Originally from Albany, Georgia, Katherine studied journalism and biology at Howard University and has worked with the Associated Press, The 19th, and other leading newsrooms. She lives in Washington, D.C., where she’s raising her son, loudly repping Fall Out Boy as the best band of all time, and insisting that Shrek is peak cinema.
