With Labor Day happening this Monday, we encourage you to reflect on what it means to resist systems of oppression that extract labor. How do we build spaces and systems that truly reflect our values, that honor disabled time, energy, labor, and bodyminds?

This week, we’re centering the brilliance, creativity, and power of disabled folks telling our own stories on our own terms. From bold dance performances to cultural change through filmmaking, disabled creators and advocates are shaping the narrative and shifting our collective future every day.

On Wednesday evening, we had eight artists, three community readers, and representatives from our co-hosts, Crushing Colonialism and New Disabled South, take the stage to celebrate queer disabled life!

Disability Culture Cabaret: Pride Edition, is an accessible night of unbridled Queer Disabled joy and imagination, filled with disabled drag, burlesque, poetry, music, and art. This is our signature event of the year.

Our hearts are heavy with the recent news of Patty Berne’s passing. Berne, co-founder of Sins Invalid, was a dreamer and creator of Disability Justice as well as a maker and champion of disabled queer, trans, and BIPOC-led arts spaces.

Disability Culture Lab is featured on Forbes’ first-ever Accessibility 100 list! These 100 organizations and individuals were chosen to highlight “the biggest innovators and impact-makers in the field of accessibility for people with disabilities.”

We’re celebrating one year of Disability Culture Lab! As we ease into summer and mark our first anniversary, we’re reflecting on the power of disability community, culture, and collective action.
