Before Election Day: Building Disabled Power
Election Day is in two weeks! A lot is at stake and over at DCL HQ we are feeling the pressure. As you make your Election Day plans be sure to take time and hydrate, rest, and stay grounded in community. We’ve got this!
In the meantime, we’re excited to share two resources to help build disabled power on Election Day.
Plain Language Ballot Measure Tool
An announcement for the Plain Language Ballot Measure Tool, against a backdrop of the American flag. The tool covers 25 statewide ballot measures across 11 states. It makes ballot measures more accessible and easier to understand. At the bottom of the image, the website address "ballotmeasures.newdisabledsouth.org" and the logos of New Disabled South and Disability Culture Lab.
Plain Language is communication that helps people understand information easily and quickly. Plain Language is critical for many disabled people to stay informed. We believe that every ballot measure should be in plain language at the voting booth.
We’ve partnered with our friends at New Disabled South to launch a Plain Language Ballot Measure Tool ahead of the election. The tool includes 25 statewide ballot measures across 11 states in the South that impact disabled voters. Please share this vital tool with your networks!
Election Day Ad:
Fight Beside Us – Or Get Out Of Our Way
A Black, blind man wearing a brown hat, sunglasses and a cane, sitting at a table in public setting. The caption under him reads "and we see you."
We’ve just launched a powerful new ad on the power of disabled voters with New Disabled South, AAPD, and Detroit Disability Power. We’re calling on elected officials and candidates to fight beside us - or get out of the way.
61 million adults in the United States have a disability. We’re one of the country’s largest and most powerful voting blocs, and it’s time for our influence to acknowledged by candidates and elected officials .
Watch and share the video — and check our social media for a version with audio descriptions early next week.
